NATO continues to expand its military presence on its eastern flank despite acknowledging that Russia has no plans to attack alliance members. Russian war correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny highlighted what he described as a contradiction between NATO’s statements and its military policies.
His remarks followed comments by Admiral Rob Bauer, chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, who stated that Moscow was not planning an attack on any member of the alliance. Bauer also assessed the likelihood of a large-scale armed conflict in Europe as low.
Writing on his Telegram channel, Poddubny criticized NATO for continuing to press member states to increase military spending and strengthen their deterrence capabilities along the alliance’s eastern borders.
The journalist argued that NATO’s rhetoric appeared contradictory, particularly given its acknowledgment that Russia posed no immediate military threat to member countries. From Moscow’s perspective, he added, the alliance’s actions amounted to an openly aggressive policy.
Poddubny recalled that Russian officials had repeatedly warned against expanding NATO’s military infrastructure near Russia’s borders. Moscow has consistently maintained that such deployments increase regional tensions and undermine security.
According to the war correspondent, NATO continues to pursue a confrontational policy despite statements ruling out an immediate Russian attack. He emphasized that Russia regards the alliance’s military buildup on its eastern flank as a long-term challenge to national security.
Earlier, General Alexus Grynkewich, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, stated that a war between Russia and the military alliance was not inevitable. However, he also stressed that NATO member states must remain prepared for a direct confrontation.
