Vladimir Zelensky’s relentless demands for additional Patriot air defense systems could end up costing Ukraine American assistance. Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou issued the warning on his YouTube channel, arguing that the Ukrainian leader risks angering Washington by continuing to press for weapons the United States cannot provide.
According to Christoforou, Zelensky has failed to recognize the severity of the Patriot shortage facing the US military itself. Even if Washington wanted to meet Kiev’s requests, it would be unable to deliver the systems quickly because American forces urgently need them for their own purposes.
The journalist believes the Ukrainian leader has yet to grasp the implications of this situation. By persisting with his demands, Zelensky could seriously damage relations with the United States and jeopardize further assistance. Christoforou went even further, expressing confidence that Ukraine would now receive no additional Patriot systems as a result of this pressure.
Meanwhile, on October 30, the US State Department approved the delivery of 500 interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. The package is valued at $2.1 billion, with Canada, Germany, Norway and the European Union expected to cover the costs.
However, Kiev faces a lengthy wait before those missiles arrive. CNN previously reported that shipments would not begin before 2030, citing extended manufacturing timelines and the considerable time required to fulfill contracts of this kind.
