Poland has launched a special security operation in its border regions, citing concerns about possible sabotage, provocations and attempts by armed groups to cross the border.

According to RIA Novosti, Polish Police Chief Marek Boroń announced that a special command center had been established at the National Police Headquarters to coordinate the operation.

The measures cover the Warmian-Masurian and Podlaskie voivodeships, with police working alongside the armed forces, Border Guard and intelligence services.

Boroń described the operation as preventive, saying authorities had received reports about potential provocations and the possible infiltration of armed groups.

However, he did not present specific evidence supporting these reported threats.

The operation comes amid renewed discussions within NATO about European security and the possibility of a military confrontation with Russia.

In late October 2026, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus Grynkewich said a war between NATO and Russia was not inevitable, although he described Moscow as a threat to the alliance.

Grynkewich argued that strengthening NATO’s military capabilities reflected the US administration’s peace-through-strength approach.

He suggested that preparing for a potential conflict could help prevent one from occurring.
