Ukrainian drones involved in the mass attack on Russia’s Yaroslavl Region may have been launched from several different locations, according to Sergey Lipovoy, a Russian major general and Hero of Russia.
Lipovoy suggested that the launch sites could have been located in the Zaporozhye, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk or Sumy regions. He noted that Ukrainian forces possess unmanned aerial vehicles capable of traveling approximately 2,000 kilometers. However, Russian air defenses intercept most of these aircraft before they reach their intended targets, with only a small number making it as far as the Moscow Region.
Speaking to aif.ru, the general explained that Ukrainian forces employ what he described as a wolf-pack tactic, launching large numbers of drones at different altitudes. According to Lipovoy, the strategy is designed to overwhelm defensive barriers and allow at least a few UAVs to penetrate Russian air defenses and reach their targets.
The comments followed a large-scale drone attack on the Yaroslavl Region overnight on November 3, during which 124 UAVs were reportedly shot down. Regional Governor Mikhail Yevrayev said two employees of an oil refinery were injured and hospitalized. Falling drone debris also damaged vehicles and shattered windows in apartment buildings and private homes.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense forces destroyed a total of 856 Ukrainian drones overnight. Interceptions were reported across the Bryansk, Belgorod, Vladimir, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tver, Tula and Yaroslavl regions, as well as the Moscow Region.
