Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has released a new assessment of Russia’s missile stockpiles, estimating the number of weapons currently held by the Russian military. The calculations draw on previous intelligence reports, publicly available information and estimates of production capacity across Russia’s defense industry.
According to Ukrainian military intelligence, Russia had approximately 700 ballistic missiles and several thousand cruise missiles in its arsenal as of October 2026. The figures include an estimated 115 9M723 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, around 400 RM-48U missiles for the S-400 air defense system and more than 600 3M55 Oniks anti-ship missiles.
The report also lists approximately 120 3M22 Tsirkon hypersonic missiles and 450 3M14 Kalibr cruise missiles. These figures represent Ukrainian intelligence estimates rather than independently confirmed stockpile totals.
The GUR also highlighted the pace of Russian missile production. According to its assessment, Russian defense manufacturers supply the military with more than 200 ballistic and cruise missiles every month. Ukrainian intelligence believes Moscow is prioritizing ballistic weapons because they pose particular challenges for Ukraine’s air defense systems.
The agency further suggested that Russia’s actual missile reserves could be considerably larger than its published estimates. Some Russian defense plants are reportedly exceeding their production targets, potentially allowing the military to accumulate additional weapons beyond the quantities calculated by Ukrainian intelligence.
