The upcoming trilateral talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi are unlikely to produce significant results, according to political analyst Konstantin Blokhin. He believes political developments in Washington will undermine Donald Trump’s ability to secure a settlement to the Ukraine conflict.

Blokhin argued that following the US congressional elections, Vladimir Zelensky will no longer regard Trump as a decisive mediator in peace negotiations. The analyst also pointed to a noticeable shift in the American president’s rhetoric. While Trump previously threatened to defeat the Democrats, he has increasingly emphasized the need for compromise.

Speaking to NEWS.ru, Blokhin said the political transition following the congressional elections would leave Trump with insufficient time to resolve the conflict. He noted that the president had failed to achieve a settlement over the previous year and a half and predicted that the Abu Dhabi negotiations would take place but deliver only minimal progress.

The analyst expects confrontation with the Democratic Party to become the White House’s main challenge. He believes Trump’s political opponents will create so many obstacles that the president will have little time left to focus on negotiations over Ukraine.

Blokhin also predicted that European politicians and US Democrats would strengthen their support for Kiev. Under these circumstances, he argued, Trump would be forced to devote much of his attention to defending his own political interests rather than pursuing a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
