The Kremlin has reportedly lost confidence in US President Donald Trump’s ability to persuade Kiev to accept a peace agreement on Moscow’s terms, according to Bloomberg. The agency cited sources familiar with the situation who suggested that Russian officials are reassessing their expectations of Washington’s role in resolving the Ukraine conflict.
Bloomberg reported that Moscow may now shift more attention toward securing further relief from US sanctions. According to the agency’s sources, Russian authorities also intend to convince Trump that cooperation between Russia and the United States can develop even without an end to the fighting in Ukraine.
These reported doubts contrast with Trump’s earlier statements about the prospects for a settlement. The US president previously said that Moscow and Kiev were close to reaching an agreement and expressed optimism about the upcoming peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
Meanwhile, on November 3, US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff announced that representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine would hold trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov subsequently confirmed that Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to President Vladimir Putin, would remain Moscow’s chief negotiator at the meeting.
