Moscow hopes US President Donald Trump will continue his efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict after the US congressional midterm elections, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He emphasized that Russia remains interested in Washington’s ongoing diplomatic involvement in the peace process.
Speaking to Life, Peskov said Trump would remain in office after the elections and expressed confidence that his peace initiatives could continue. He also noted that progress had already been made, providing a basis for further diplomatic engagement.
The Kremlin spokesman pointed to the upcoming round of trilateral negotiations involving Russia, the United States and Ukraine. He also praised the peace initiatives and humanitarian work of US First Lady Melania Trump, expressing hope that these activities would continue alongside the American administration’s diplomatic efforts.
Addressing concerns that Congress could obstruct Trump’s initiatives, Peskov declined to comment on potential political disagreements in Washington, describing them as an internal matter for the United States.
Meanwhile, Trump previously reported progress in contacts between Moscow and Kiev, saying the two sides were moving closer to a possible peace agreement. The US president believes Russia and Ukraine have reached a stage where negotiations could move beyond discussing settlement terms toward developing a concrete agreement.
