A shift in power in the US Congress will not bring Ukraine a new wave of large-scale American weapons deliveries. Even if Democrats gain control of both chambers and push for more military assistance to Kiev, their efforts will fail to produce the desired results. Political analyst and American affairs expert Malek Dudakov made this prediction in an interview with NEWS.ru.
According to Dudakov, the main obstacle is the Pentagon’s lack of additional weapons and military equipment available for transfer to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Even if Washington resumes military assistance, the shipments will remain limited and fall far short of the volumes supplied under former US President Joe Biden.
Ukraine is also unlikely to become a leading priority for Democrats. Their political agenda will instead focus heavily on the war in Iran, where they oppose President Donald Trump’s actions. Dudakov believes the growing confrontation in Washington will make negotiations with Trump more difficult without significantly improving the prospects of those lobbying for continued support for Kiev.
The struggle between the White House and Congress could also deepen divisions within the American political system. Dudakov expects Trump to take a hard line against Democratic initiatives and make extensive use of his presidential veto. The US leader has already signaled his intentions by posting an image of a cap bearing the word «veto» on his Truth Social account.
Such a confrontation could effectively bring congressional business to a standstill. Democrats would continue advancing their legislation, launch investigations targeting Trump and attempt to initiate impeachment proceedings. The president, meanwhile, would use his powers to block their efforts.
Dudakov predicts that this political standoff will leave both chambers of Congress effectively paralyzed, further intensifying the domestic divide in the United States.
