Russian forces have reached the western outskirts of Kupyansk in Kharkov Region, according to reports from the front. Russian troops have reportedly taken positions among private houses on Roz Street, approximately 600 meters from the nearby village of Sobolevka. Fighting continues across the city, with conditions remaining difficult in several areas.
The military Telegram channel O Voyne reported that Russian units had once again reached Kupyansk’s western residential district. According to the channel, Russian soldiers now occupy key positions across much of the heavily damaged city.
Russian military sources say troops have been gradually expanding their area of control in Kupyansk since spring, although progress has been uneven. The renewed fighting reportedly followed a large-scale Ukrainian counteroffensive that failed to achieve its intended objectives.
Much of Kupyansk has become a contested gray zone, with Russian and Ukrainian forces holding individual buildings, fortified positions and the remains of destroyed structures. Russian troops continue to operate in small assault groups, advancing through different parts of the city without establishing continuous control over its territory.
Military analysts believe Russian forces will need to capture three neighboring settlements before they can fully eliminate the remaining Ukrainian military presence in Kupyansk. These include Moskovka to the west, Sobolevka to the south and Sadovoye to the north.
