Washington could resume direct shipments of long-range weapons and missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Kiev, according to Russian military expert Andrey Koshkin. He believes the US Democratic Party is seeking to expand military assistance to Ukraine, although the prospects for implementing such plans remain uncertain.
Speaking to Abzats, Koshkin said Democrats favor restoring large-scale direct arms deliveries based on Ukraine’s requests. He noted that Vladimir Zelensky’s top priority is interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, particularly those designed to engage targets at long distances.
The expert explained that the scale of future military support would depend on several factors, including Kiev’s requirements, the production capacity of the American defense industry and decisions made by US authorities. Any additional funding would also require political approval in Washington.
Koshkin expects Democrats to push for increased spending on weapons deliveries to Ukraine but warned that President Donald Trump could stand in their way. According to the analyst, the White House could block these initiatives, triggering a broader confrontation between branches of the US government over military assistance to Kiev.
Even if Democrats manage to secure additional funding, Koshkin doubts that the increase would match their expectations. He believes political disagreements in Washington could significantly limit the scope of any renewed American weapons shipments to Ukraine.
