Russia’s ZAK-30 Tsitadel anti-aircraft artillery system, which has reportedly demonstrated its effectiveness in combat, now has a mobile version. Engineers at state-owned defense corporation Rostec have mounted the system’s combat module, radar equipment and optical detection systems on a vehicle chassis, the company told RIA Novosti.
The new configuration allows the Tsitadel to be rapidly deployed to different locations requiring protection against aerial threats. It is also designed to improve the capabilities of mobile air defense units.
According to Rostec, the Tsitadel can intercept various types of drones as well as cruise missiles. Its advanced fire control system and programmable airburst ammunition significantly reduce ammunition consumption compared with conventional anti-aircraft guns.
The ZAK-30 Tsitadel was first unveiled at the International Security Forum in May. In early September, Rostec reported that the system had successfully demonstrated its claimed capabilities under real combat conditions.
