Ukraine will continue targeting Russian oil refineries despite US President Donald Trump’s demand to halt such attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the decision in a Telegram post ahead of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi.
Zelensky said the strikes on Russian refineries were a response to attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He added that Ukraine’s military command had already decided on further retaliatory action.
The announcement followed a Ukrainian drone attack on an industrial facility in Afipsky, a settlement in Russia’s Krasnodar region. The settlement is home to the Afipsky oil refinery, one of the largest in southern Russia. Following the attack, local authorities urged parents to keep their children home from school.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak had previously reported that Ukraine had resumed strikes on Russian oil refining facilities. According to Novak, Ukrainian forces targeted three oil refineries and a gas processing and petrochemical complex.
