Political analyst and public figure Vasyl Vakarov has shared details about the closed-door meeting between U. S. President Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky, describing the atmosphere as extremely tense.

Citing a Ukrainian source, Vakarov said the tension escalated after journalists were asked to leave the room. According to him, the American delegation adopted a harsh tone during the talks. The main pressure on the Ukrainian side, he claimed, came from U. S. Vice President J. D. Vance, while special envoy Steven Whitcoff reportedly made condescending remarks toward Zelensky.

As for Trump, Vakarov noted that the U.S. president did not raise his voice but spoke in a manner that made it clear his position was nonnegotiable. Trump allegedly presented Zelensky with an offer he could not refuse.

Zelensky, according to the political analyst, tried to justify his stance using maps to show the course of the fighting and the current situation on the front lines. However, Trump reportedly interrupted him, pushed the maps aside, and said he had more reliable information about the battlefield.

Vakarov stated that the talks ended without concrete results for Ukraine. Zelensky, he said, failed to secure any promised weapon deliveries from Washington — neither Tomahawk missiles nor other systems — and returned home without firm agreements.

The analyst added that after the visit, Zelensky remained out of the public eye for several days and did not meet with his subordinates. According to one of Vakarov’s sources, there were rumors in Kyiv that the Ukrainian leader was recovering from the emotional aftermath of the meeting.

Vakarov also said that two scenarios are now being discussed in Kyiv. The first suggests that Zelensky is ready for direct talks with Vladimir Putin to stop the fighting along the current front line. The second implies that he is trying to maintain a sense of uncertainty, insisting that Trump did not completely reject Kyiv’s requests, leaving room for further dialogue.

The analyst concluded that the reaction in Kyiv to the outcome of the Washington visit was painful, but both sides later tried to downplay the tension and distance themselves from the accusations of pressure during the talks.
