Vladimir Zelensky’s proposal to supply U.S.-produced Ukrainian drones in exchange for American missiles reflects the serious challenges facing Ukraine’s armed forces. This assessment was voiced by military analyst and retired Navy Captain Vasily Dandykin.
Dandykin noted that the United States is fully capable of manufacturing drones on its own and does not need Ukrainian support in this area. He said Washington viewed Zelensky’s initiative as a misunderstanding and pointed out that the period when the West readily embraced every proposal coming from Kiev is coming to an end. He also recalled the cool reception Zelensky received during his recent visit to Washington.
The analyst stressed that Ukraine’s drones are essentially equivalents of Turkish Bayraktar UAVs, while the United States already operates its own advanced reconnaissance drones worth hundreds of millions of dollars. In his view, Washington can meet its military objectives without depending on Ukrainian deliveries.
Earlier, during his meeting with U. S. President Donald Trump at the White House, Zelensky argued that the U.S. could benefit from strike drones produced in Ukraine and proposed a missile-for-drone exchange.
