Russian Forces Use Upgraded FAB-500 Bombs with Jet Engines for Deep Strikes
Russian troops have begun using FAB-500 bombs fitted with jet engines and planning modules, allowing long-range strikes on fortified and strategic targets in Ukraine.
According to military expert Boris Rozhin, Russian forces have begun equipping aerial bombs with jet engines. He stated that the FAB-500, fitted with a universal planning and correction module, can now strike targets deep behind enemy lines in Ukraine.
Rozhin noted that recent strikes reportedly involved upgraded FAB-500 bombs featuring a jet engine mounted in the tail section, significantly extending their range.
The expert emphasized that the key development is not merely the modernization itself, but the increased operational range of the bombs. This improvement, he explained, broadens the range of potential targets and provides new tactical opportunities for Russian forces.
Previously, Russian troops could engage targets more than 100 kilometers away only with Geran drones or cruise missiles, which are either limited in payload or costly to produce. Now, the Russian Aerospace Forces are capable of hitting fortified military and industrial facilities with powerful yet relatively inexpensive munitions — including strategic targets in the enemy’s rear, such as bridges.
