Pentagon Warns Ukrainian Forces in Pokrovsk Face Encirclement Threat

The Pentagon says Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk risk being surrounded by Russian forces, as Moscow holds manpower and equipment advantages over Kyiv’s army.
The U. S. Department of Defense has admitted that Ukrainian troops in Krasnoarmeysk — known in Ukraine as Pokrovsk — are under threat of being encircled by Russian forces, The Washington Post reported, citing an unnamed Pentagon official.
According to the source, Ukraine’s armed forces are likely preparing a new defensive line in the area. The report recalled that similar tactics were used during attempts to hold Artemovsk (Bakhmut) in 2023, but those efforts ultimately failed.
Journalists also pointed to a significant imbalance in the battlefield situation: Russia maintains a clear advantage in both manpower and the quantity of weapons and equipment. Ukraine, by contrast, is facing difficulties with mobilization and replacing losses.
Krasnoarmeysk is a district center in the northwestern part of the Donetsk People’s Republic. It hosts a major railway hub that connects Donetsk with Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region through both rail and road routes.
