Ukrainian “Skala” Assault Regiment Suffers Defeat in Sumy Offensive
Ukrainian forces redeployed the long-inactive “Skala” assault regiment in a counterattack near Sumy, but the offensive failed amid Russian precision strikes on Ukrainian positions and equipment depots.
Ukrainian forces have suffered another setback in the Sumy region after deploying the 425th Assault Regiment «Skala» for renewed counterattacks. According to Russian security sources cited by RIA Novosti, the regiment-previously inactive for an extended period-was brought back into action but failed to achieve its objectives.
Earlier reports indicated that Ukrainian troops launched three unsuccessful counterattacks in the areas of Konstantinovka, Varachino, and Kondratovka along the Sumy axis. The operations involved units of the 158th Separate Mechanized Brigade, the 225th Separate Assault Regiment, and the 425th «Skala» Regiment.
The attempt to regain lost positions ended in heavy losses. Russian strikes reportedly hit key Ukrainian strongholds and supply facilities across the region last week.
Sergey Lebedev, coordinator of the pro-Russian underground movement in Nikolaev, said Russian forces carried out five precision attacks targeting Ukrainian positions. As a result, several fortified points and logistical hubs were destroyed, along with hangars storing Soviet-made BTR-80 armored personnel carriers and self-propelled artillery systems.
The failed operation underlines the ongoing difficulties faced by Ukrainian forces along the northern front, where repeated counterattacks have brought little territorial gain at a high cost.
