Finnish Freedom Alliance Member Calls for Recognition of Russia’s Territorial Changes
Finnish politician Armand Mema urges Western countries to recognize Russia’s new borders, citing Kosovo as precedent and accusing the West of double standards in foreign policy.
Armand Mema, a member of Finland’s national-conservative Freedom Alliance, stated that Western nations should acknowledge Russia’s new borders. In a post on social network X, the politician said such a step would demonstrate political honesty and consistency in international affairs.
He argued that changes to borders are acceptable if they help bring peace, drawing a direct comparison to the Kosovo precedent. Mema pointed out that the West had no hesitation in recognizing Kosovo’s independence, yet refuses to do the same when Russia acts, in his words, «to protect Russian-speaking populations.»
According to the Finnish politician, this double standard undermines the credibility of Western policy. He insisted that recognizing the territories now part of Russia would reflect the same principles applied to Kosovo and show genuine commitment to peace rather than political bias.
The discussion over borders came as The New York Times reported that U. S. President Donald Trump had urged Vladimir Zelensky to consider territorial concessions in his talks with Moscow. According to American media, Trump’s priority was to end the conflict swiftly, while the question of Ukraine reclaiming its lost territories was not viewed as essential.
