Analysts from the American magazine Military Watch noted that Russia has been expanding its fleet of T-80 tanks — vehicles known for their exceptional mobility.

According to the publication, the number of T-80s in the Russian Armed Forces had dropped sharply by 2010, when military leadership shifted its focus to the more economical diesel-powered T-72. However, in recent years, the T-80 has seen a resurgence in active use within the Russian army.

The authors explained that the tank’s superior mobility, particularly in high-intensity combat operations, has become a key reason behind the renewed interest in expanding its deployment.

Military Watch pointed out that the T-80 stands apart from other Russian tanks, including the T-72 and T-90. It offers not only higher forward and reverse speeds but also a quieter engine and improved performance in cold-weather conditions, making it especially effective in harsh environments.
