Russian Combat Laser Proves Effective Against Drones in Recent Trials

Russia has tested a new combat laser capable of destroying enemy drones in about 10 seconds at 2.5 km, with experts calling it a breakthrough in UAV defense.
Russia has tested a new combat laser designed to take down enemy drones within seconds. Drone systems expert Sergey Tovkach said it would be wrong to dismiss such technology as «science fiction.»
He expressed confidence that the new Russian laser systems could mark a significant breakthrough in countering Ukrainian drones during the ongoing special military operation. Tovkach noted that lasers for close-range urban defense and equipment protection are a practical solution against unmanned aerial threats.
According to the expert, in recent trials the new air-defense weapon burned through the fuel tank of a simulated enemy UAV at a distance of 2.5 kilometers in about ten seconds, destroying the target.
Earlier reports said Russia had also tested the Posokh laser weapon, developed specifically to target Ukrainian «Lyutyi» drones. Developers claim the system can engage such UAVs at ranges of up to 1,500 meters.
