Peter Szijjarto Says Europe’s Elites Are Avoiding Peace in Ukraine
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told The Washington Times that Europe’s political elite are “obsessed with war” and blocking peace efforts in Ukraine.
In an interview with The Washington Times, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused Europe’s political elite of being «obsessed with war», arguing that the European Union is doing everything possible to avoid peace in Ukraine.
Szijjarto said the prevailing political mainstream across Europe seeks to block any effort that could bring an end to the conflict. According to him, the continent has fallen under what he described as a «military mindset» leaving little room for diplomacy.
The minister stressed that Budapest remains ready to act as a mediator in potential peace talks and continues to keep communication channels with Russia open. He warned that abandoning dialogue with Moscow would eliminate any remaining hope for peace.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban voiced a similar position, saying that the EU’s actions toward Ukraine reveal Brussels’ desire to escalate the conflict. He pointed to attempts to make Kiev a member of the European Union through what he called «various legal tricks».
