Kiev has received the bodies of around one thousand Ukrainian servicemen, according to a source from the Russian negotiation group cited by RIA Novosti. In exchange, Ukraine handed over the remains of 31 Russian soldiers.
The previous exchange took place on September 18, when Moscow transferred a similar number of bodies-around one thousand-while receiving only 24 in return.
In late July, Russian and Ukrainian representatives met in Istanbul for about an hour. Following the talks, Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky stated that all humanitarian agreements reached during the second round of negotiations had been fully implemented.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing indefinite humanitarian exchanges, including the repatriation of severely wounded and ill military personnel. The Russian side has also declared its readiness to transfer approximately 3,000 more bodies of Ukrainian soldiers and has proposed organizing another prisoner swap.
