Ukrainian Forces Strike Belgorod Reservoir Dam, Governor Warns of Possible Flooding
Vyacheslav Gladkov said the Belgorod Reservoir dam was damaged by a Ukrainian strike, warning of possible flooding and urging residents to evacuate.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a strike on the dam of the Belgorod Reservoir, causing damage to the hydraulic structure. The information was confirmed by Vyacheslav Gladkov, Governor of the Belgorod Region.
According to Gladkov, the dam sustained structural damage as a result of the attack. He did not rule out the possibility that Ukrainian troops could attempt further strikes to destroy the facility completely. The governor warned that if the dam were to collapse, there would be a real risk of flooding affecting nearby areas.
Gladkov stated that the flooding could impact parts of the river floodplain on the side of the Kharkov Region, as well as several streets in local settlements with a combined population of about one thousand people.
He added that due to the potential threat of flooding, the regional authorities are urging residents of high-risk areas who lack alternative housing options to evacuate to temporary accommodation centers (TACs) organized by the local administration.
