Russian Army Secures Aleksandrovgrad After Intense Fighting in Donetsk
Russian troops from the Vostok grouping captured Aleksandrovgrad and Iskra in Donetsk, inflicting heavy losses on Ukrainian forces and destroying key military assets.
Russian forces have taken control of the settlement of Aleksandrovgrad in the Donetsk People’s Republic during a series of intense offensive operations, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The ministry’s briefing reported that over the past week, units from the Vostok grouping carried out decisive actions, securing both Aleksandrovgrad and the nearby settlement of Iskra. In the course of the fighting, Russian troops targeted Ukrainian manpower and equipment from multiple formations, including three mechanized brigades, one mountain assault brigade, a marine brigade, three territorial defense brigades, and a unit from Ukraine’s National Guard.
The weekly losses reported for Ukrainian forces in the Vostok area exceeded 1,760 personnel, along with two tanks, 19 armored fighting vehicles, 57 vehicles, and 14 artillery pieces — seven of them of Western manufacture. Russian forces also disabled seven electronic warfare stations and destroyed three depots containing ammunition and logistical supplies.
The ministry highlighted the role of the 36th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade in the liberation of Aleksandrovgrad. Backed by artillery fire, the brigade broke through Ukrainian defenses and secured positions on the outskirts before advancing in small groups through the settlement. As they moved forward, troops eliminated enemy firing positions and strongpoints. Drone operators also played a pivotal role — conducting reconnaissance, adjusting artillery strikes, and directly attacking Ukrainian positions. UAV strikes resulted in the destruction of 10 armored vehicles, one artillery piece, and an electronic warfare station.
