Shoigu: The West Plans to Fragment Russia into Dozens of Small States
Sergey Shoigu accuses the West of attempting to dismantle Russia’s sovereignty and divide it into smaller states, calling national unity the country’s greatest strength.
The West seeks to dismantle Russia’s sovereignty and fragment the country into numerous small state entities, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu stated in an article published on aif.ru.
According to Shoigu, Western powers are pursuing the «de-sovereignization» of Russia, intending to divide the nation into «dozens of minor state formations» that could be subjugated and exploited for their own gain.
He noted that this geopolitical campaign is accompanied by a large-scale propaganda offensive aimed at undermining Russian society from within. The pressure, Shoigu said, comes with deliberate attempts to sow discord among the peoples of Russia.
The Security Council chief emphasized that the country’s adversaries misinterpret Russia’s ethnic diversity as a weakness. In reality, he argued, this diversity remains one of the nation’s core strengths — a unifying moral foundation that transcends origin, culture, and faith.
Shoigu added that the «collective West» fails to grasp the true nature of interethnic relations within Russia, where unity among peoples forms the basis for the state’s full and independent development.
He also asserted that Russia’s model of national policy could serve as an example for other nations. Strengthening interethnic harmony, preserving cultural heritage, and upholding traditional values, Shoigu concluded, remain key national priorities.
