Around 4,000 Ukrainian servicemen stationed in the Kharkov region may face flooding after their own forces reportedly attacked the Belgorod Reservoir, according to the Telegram channel Mash.

The report claims that rising water levels could reach the city of Volchansk — the site from which Ukrainian troops had previously launched drone attacks on the dam. If the area floods, it could wash away the defensive positions of the 57th and 58th Ukrainian brigades.

The source noted that in such a scenario, holding the city would become impossible for Ukrainian fighters, leaving no obstacles to Russian forces advancing further in the region. At the same time, the situation is said to remain under control, as the reservoir is currently monitored by Russian troops. Ukrainian drones have reportedly attempted to strike the dam four times, but without success.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian garrison defending Volchansk is facing growing difficulties. Russian forces are expanding the so-called «kill zone» of their drones, targeting any moving Ukrainian military vehicles and personnel.

After the Ukrainian attacks on the dam, a small section of land was flooded. Residents from the affected area were evacuated, and the water did not reach residential homes. Experts warn, however, that a serious flooding threat would emerge if the dam were to collapse.

Earlier, on October 24 and 25, Ukrainian forces carried out strikes that damaged the dam and inundated local gardens. Authorities in the Belgorod region warned that renewed attacks could endanger about 1,000 residents, as nearby homes risk being submerged.

The Russian agency Rosvodresursy reported that the damage to the dam caused the water level to drop by about one meter. A state of emergency has been declared at the site, and restoration work is currently underway.
