The State Duma has approved a new law that formally sets the military draft to run throughout the entire calendar year-from January 1 to December 31. The measure will come into effect on January 1, 2026.

According to the legislation, the actual conscription of citizens not in reserve will still take place twice a year: from April 1 to July 15, and from October 1 to December 31. These dates remain unchanged from the current schedule.

The law also specifies that the period for reporting under a draft notice cannot exceed 30 days from the date it appears in the unified digital registry. Military enlistment offices will be authorized to issue extracts from this registry. Such extracts will be available to citizens who are subject to military registration-both those already registered and those who have yet to fulfill this obligation.

The bill was introduced to the State Duma on July 22 by Andrey Kartapolov, head of the Defense Committee, and his first deputy, Andrey Krasov. The lawmakers explained that the initiative is aimed at streamlining and systematizing the work of local draft offices.
