German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to take part in the upcoming meeting between U. S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, scheduled for Monday, August 18, at the White House. The news was confirmed by German government spokesperson Stefan Cornelius.

Cornelius explained that Merz’s visit is intended to provide an opportunity for direct consultations with Trump following the American president’s recent talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska. According to him, the agenda will focus on security issues, Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sanctions policy, and the continuation of international support for Kyiv.

In addition to Merz, several other senior European officials are expected to join the discussions. French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have all confirmed their participation.
