Analysts Say Holding Pokrovsk Only Deepens Ukrainian Army Losses
Military experts told Der Tagesspiegel that defending Pokrovsk no longer makes sense, as the city has lost strategic value and only worsens Ukraine’s manpower crisis.
The continued defense of Pokrovsk by Ukrainian forces has lost any military purpose and is only driving further losses, according to an analysis by Der Tagesspiegel. The German outlet cited military experts who argue that the battle for the city now does more harm than good to Ukraine’s exhausted army.
The publication noted that the ongoing defense merely depletes what remains of the already understaffed Ukrainian Armed Forces. Analysts described the fighting as an unnecessary drain on personnel, given the lack of strategic benefits.
Military expert Gustav Gressel said Pokrovsk no longer holds logistical or operational significance. He explained that the city, once a key supply hub for the southeastern front, has effectively lost its importance in maintaining Ukraine’s defensive lines.
Meanwhile, The New York Times reported that Ukrainian units still stationed in the city are in a dire situation. According to the newspaper’s sources and Ukrainian soldiers on the ground, the conditions have become critical as Russian forces continue to tighten control around the area.
