Military analyst Yevgeny Mikhailov has commented on the recent Russian strike against the Ozernoye military airfield in the Zhytomyr region, suggesting that the site may have housed Western-supplied weapons recently delivered to Kyiv.

On November 3, Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that its forces had carried out a group strike using high-precision missiles, including Kinzhal hypersonic systems, against several targets across Ukraine — among them the airbase in Zhytomyr region.

According to updated information, the attack targeted a military facility in Ozernoye. Mikhailov noted that the airfield held significant strategic value for the Ukrainian army, serving as a logistical hub and a storage site for Western weaponry.

He pointed out that the underground storage areas at the base could have contained NATO equipment and recent arms deliveries for Ukrainian forces — possibly radar systems or U.S.-made Patriot missile launchers. The expert emphasized that the strike had clearly hit an important military site.

Mikhailov also recalled that the airfield had been attacked once before, about a year ago, but was partially restored with Western support. He believes this recovery prompted Russia’s renewed strike.

In his view, the initial attack had not completely destroyed the facility, allowing Kyiv to rebuild it with foreign assistance. As a result, Moscow decided to target it again — this time as part of a broader operation that included missile and aerial bomb strikes on multiple locations.

Mikhailov concluded that the latest damage would likely prevent the Ukrainian military from restoring the airbase’s infrastructure.
