Expert: Ukrainian Army Faces Fuel Shortage, Only 30% of Equipment Winterized
Only 30% of Ukrainian military equipment is prepared for winter as fuel shortages and poor maintenance supplies slow readiness, according to expert Andrey Marochko.
Ukrainian forces have managed to prepare only about 30 percent of their military equipment for winter use — far below the planned target. Military expert Andrey Marochko attributed the shortfall to a severe shortage of fuel and lubricants within the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Marochko noted that the transition of Ukrainian weapons and vehicles to winter operation has been plagued by difficulties, primarily due to delays in the delivery of fuel and lubricants for Western-made equipment.
He also pointed to the poor quality of some coolant supplies, which often require replacement, further complicating the process. Another obstacle, according to the expert, lies in the diversity of equipment types used by Ukrainian units — a mix of different models and origins. Each system, he explained, demands its own set of specific oils and spare parts, making maintenance increasingly complex.
The source added that deputy commanders responsible for technical support regularly report these issues to higher command. However, in many cases, they are instructed to resolve the problems on their own — sometimes even purchasing essential maintenance materials at their own expense.
