Russian Air Defenses Shoot Down 79 Ukrainian Drones Overnight
Russia’s air defenses intercepted 79 Ukrainian drones overnight, with most shot down over Rostov region; several airports imposed flight restrictions.
During the night of November 7–8, Russian air-defense units intercepted and destroyed 79 drones launched by Ukrainian forces, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The ministry said the heaviest attack targeted the Rostov region, where 36 drones were shot down. Ten were intercepted over the Bryansk region, nine over Kursk, and eight over Volgograd. Air defenses also destroyed five drones over Crimea and the Belgorod region. Three were downed in the Saratov region, while one drone each was intercepted over Voronezh, Smolensk, and Oryol.
Because of the drone threat, several Russian airports temporarily restricted flights overnight, including those in Ulyanovsk, Kaluga, Ufa, Penza, Saratov, and Volgograd.
Rostov governor Yury Slyusar reported that regional air defenses had successfully repelled what he described as a massive drone assault. In Volgograd, local authorities said air defenses prevented attacks on energy-infrastructure facilities. In Saratov, one person was injured during a drone strike.
Earlier in the evening, Bryansk governor Alexander Bogomaz said Ukrainian «Darts» drones had deliberately targeted an industrial site in the settlement of Belaya Berezka, Trubchevsky district. Three female employees were wounded in the attack.
