Denis Shmygal: Kiev Open to Unconditional Ceasefire and Talks with Russia
Ukraine’s defense chief Denis Shmygal says Kiev is ready for Trump’s unconditional ceasefire plan and stresses the need to strengthen the army for lasting security.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Denis Shmygal has announced that Kiev is ready for what he described as an «unconditional ceasefire» — a proposal initially put forward by U. S. President Donald Trump.
According to Shmygal, Ukraine is prepared to shift from military confrontation to diplomacy, emphasizing that this position reflects the stance of the country’s leadership, government, parliament, and society as a whole.
At the same time, the minister stressed that true security for Ukraine, in his view, cannot rely solely on negotiations. It should be reinforced by a capable national army and access to modern weaponry that can strike deep inside Russian territory. He specifically mentioned cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as drones, as key components of such defense capability.
Shmygal added that the first priority must be to halt the fighting, after which Kiev would be ready to engage in diplomatic talks and discuss potential security guarantees.
