Russian FSB Blocks Ukrainian Plot to Capture MiG-31 Fighter Jet
Russia’s FSB says it stopped a Ukrainian intelligence attempt, backed by the UK, to hijack a MiG-31 jet armed with a Kinzhal missile and provoke an international incident near Romania.
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced it foiled an attempt by Ukraine’s military intelligence, reportedly aided by British handlers, to hijack a MiG-31 fighter jet armed with a «Kinzhal» hypersonic missile.
According to the FSB, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry tried to recruit Russian pilots, offering them up to three million dollars to participate in the operation.
The plan, the agency said, involved seizing the MiG-31 and redirecting it toward the Romanian city of Constanța — home to the largest NATO air base in southeastern Europe — where it would then be shot down by air defense systems.
The FSB emphasized that the intent behind the operation was to stage a provocation against Russia, orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence with Western support.
