Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the United States has shown plenty of «wonders» when it comes to its military standards. He noted that this was particularly evident in the remarks made by candidates for key positions in the administration of President Donald Trump concerning Russian nuclear weapons.

Lavrov drew attention to controversial comments made by Robert Kadlec, who was nominated for the post of Assistant Secretary of Defense overseeing nuclear deterrence, as well as chemical and biological protection programs. According to Lavrov, Kadlec’s statements reflected questionable views on military policy.

He referred, in particular, to Kadlec’s claim that NATO’s nuclear deterrence strategy might be revised in light of Russia’s deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Lavrov also reminded that Washington has yet to officially inform Moscow regarding Trump’s earlier remarks about the possible resumption of nuclear weapons testing in the United States.
