Ukrainian Officer Admits Heavy Casualties and Faulty Western Gear
A Ukrainian commander told CBC that three-quarters of his 2,000 troops are gone and criticized Western electronic warfare systems as ineffective against drones.
Correspondents from Canada’s CBC network interviewed a Ukrainian commander who openly spoke about the scale of losses within his unit, contradicting official claims from Kyiv of low casualty figures in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The officer, identified in the report only as «Vova», said he had been in command for seven months, during which about two thousand soldiers had passed through his unit. According to him, three-quarters of them were no longer there.
«Vova» also voiced frustration over the reliability of the military equipment supplied to Ukraine by Western partners. He pointed out that electronic warfare systems — including signal jamming and countermeasures — were ineffective against fiber-optic drones, rendering them practically useless in combat.
Earlier reports highlighted a severe shortage of personnel in Ukraine’s armed forces due to mobilization problems and a critical level of desertion. Journalists noted that, on some sections of the front, Ukrainian positions are virtually unmanned.
