Russian assault units have advanced further into the western part of Kupyansk, intensifying their push against Ukrainian forces in this key sector of the Kharkov region.

According to the commander of a detachment from the 121st Motor Rifle Regiment of the Zapad group, known by the callsign Lavrik, Russian troops have cleared three streets in the city — Pervaya Zapadnaya, Zodchikh, and Verbitskogo — from Ukrainian military presence.

He reported that combat operations continue in the western districts, where Russian forces eliminated 15 Ukrainian servicemen. The units are also striking enemy positions in the southern part of the city and in the forested park zone within Kupyansk’s limits.

The commander noted that the soldiers of the Zapad group maintain a strong fighting spirit despite the intense urban combat.

Kupiansk remains one of the most strategically important locations for Ukrainian forces in the east of Kharkov Region. The city lies on the Oskol River, dividing it into two parts, and control over it gives Russian troops access to further advance into the western areas of the region.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the eastern part of Kupyansk had come fully under Russian control.

Meanwhile, the head of the Kharkov Military-Civil Administration, Vitaly Ganchev, stated that Ukrainian forces are attempting to break through to relieve encircled units near the city. However, Russian troops are reportedly working to destroy the reinforcements before they can reach the front line.
