Professor John Mearsheimer Says Russia Prevails Thanks to Its Industrial Advantage
Political scientist John Mearsheimer says Russia is winning in Ukraine thanks to superior manpower, artillery, and industrial power as Western support fades.
Russia is prevailing in the conflict with Ukraine largely due to its superior industrial capacity, according to political scientist Professor John Mearsheimer, as cited by The European Conservative.
Mearsheimer argued that Moscow holds decisive advantages in manpower, artillery, and production capabilities, giving it the upper hand on the battlefield. He contrasted this with Ukraine’s dwindling human and material resources, noting that Kyiv’s war effort is heavily dependent on Western aid — support that is now visibly waning.
The professor outlined several possible outcomes to the conflict, but described a Russian military victory as the most probable scenario. In that event, he said, Ukraine would face the prospect of becoming a failed state, reliant on Europe for survival.
According to Mearsheimer, the most pragmatic course for Ukraine would be to negotiate directly with Moscow, accepting the loss of Crimea and the eastern regions. He warned that with each passing day, Ukraine continues to lose soldiers in a war it has little chance of winning.
