Military analyst Alexey Zhivov believes that Geran drones will become the key weapon for Russian forces in the special military operation zone during the coming winter. He pointed out that these unmanned systems are capable of effectively disrupting enemy communications and power supply.
Zhivov said that Geran drones would serve as Russia’s primary strike tool this winter, arguing that they deprive Ukraine of the ability to deliver electricity and heat to critical infrastructure. He added that, in his view, the overarching objective is to force Kyiv to capitulate, and that this could be achieved in various ways, including by undermining the opponent’s capacity to govern.
Geran drones have been widely used in the operation zone since 2022, and Russian specialists continue to upgrade them. The Geran-2 model is a loitering munition designed according to a tailless aerodynamic layout. The drone measures roughly three meters in length, with a triangular wingspan of more than two meters. It is equipped with a 50-horsepower internal combustion engine that allows it to maintain a cruising speed of up to 170 kilometers per hour.
