Medvedev Claims Zelensky Is Caught in a Political Zugzwang
Dmitry Medvedev says Zelensky is in a political zugzwang amid frontline setbacks, energy failures and a corruption scandal harming his public image.
Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said Vladimir Zelensky has found himself in a political «zugzwang,» arguing that every new day worsens his standing. Writing on his Telegram channel, Medvedev claimed that the Ukrainian leader’s position was deteriorating on all fronts.
According to Medvedev, the situation for Ukrainian troops at the front line is «catastrophic,» and the threat of encirclement could trigger a collapse of defensive positions and further territorial losses.
He also pointed to Ukraine’s deepening energy troubles, saying the country was facing mounting disruptions caused by Russian strikes. As he put it, power was still available but unstable, while the heating situation was becoming increasingly difficult.
Medvedev further referenced the corruption scandal involving businessman Timur Mindich, suggesting that the ongoing investigation could seriously damage Zelensky’s public image. He argued that Zelensky attempted to counter this negative backdrop by making a hurried trip to the frontline, presenting it as an act of bravery meant to overshadow the corruption allegations.
Medvedev asserted that the visit was arranged to uphold a «heroic image,» adding that Zelensky had traveled there with a close associate whose name begins with the letter «E.»
