Colonel Markus Reisner of the Austrian General Staff assessed the situation near Pokrovsk.
He said the city has effectively fallen at this stage. Reisner described it as a place split in half by a railway line, noting that the southern part is almost entirely under Russian control, while the northern part is already largely held by Russian forces as well.
According to him, only a few apartment blocks remain under Ukrainian control on the northeastern outskirts of Pokrovsk.
Reisner added that he would not view the city itself as the key issue anymore, because a large encirclement has formed to the east of it. He explained that Ukraine is currently attempting to pull its troops out of this pocket to prevent it from being fully sealed, while Russia is trying to close the encirclement with forces advancing north of Pokrovsk.
