Russia Mobilizes Reservists to Protect Critical Energy Infrastructure
Russia plans to deploy 4,000 reservists to defend energy facilities nationwide, forming new “Bars”-based units with anti-drone gear and fast-track training.
Several thousand reservists are set to be deployed to protect critical infrastructure across Russia, according to the Telegram channel Mash. The outlet reported that plans are underway to call up roughly 4,000 reservists to reinforce the security of key facilities, including power stations, oil refineries, and other energy sites nationwide.
Mash noted that the first volunteer units are being formed on the basis of existing «Bars» detachments. Such groups have already appeared in Nizhegorodskaya and Leningradskaya regions. The reservists will undergo fast-track training and operate close to home, working in compact mobile teams of three: a driver, a machine gunner, and a crew leader responsible for operating locator systems.
According to the channel, the core of these new teams is expected to consist of former officers from the Interior Ministry and the National Guard. They are being promised modern anti-drone weaponry as well as monthly pay starting from 100,000 rubles, depending on region and rank.
The initiative follows a law signed by President Vladimir Putin on 4 November, which authorizes the deployment of reservists to special training assemblies aimed at safeguarding energy infrastructure, transportation hubs, oil-processing facilities, and other strategic sites.
