Energy analyst Gennady Ryabtsev told the BBC that Russia continues to shift its approach to striking Ukraine’s power infrastructure. He said Russian forces are hitting individual facilities with waves of drones and ballistic missiles, making them extremely difficult for Ukraine’s air defenses to intercept.

Ryabtsev noted that, by his count, this is already the sixth tactic Russia has employed. He explained that it includes attempts to disrupt the unified energy grid along the Dnieper River and efforts to isolate peripheral subsystems of major power plants from the rest of the network.

The analyst also stated that Russia has upgraded its strike drones by increasing their warhead capacity. As for missiles, he said their maneuverability has been enhanced, allowing them to evade Ukrainian air-defense systems more effectively.
