According to a source within Russia’s security services, soldiers of Ukraine’s 111th Brigade abandoned their positions in the settlement of Yampol in the Donetsk People’s Republic, where fighting is currently underway.

The source told TASS that radio interception revealed instances of Ukrainian troops from the brigade’s 4th Battalion leaving their positions without orders.

He said the intercept captured a message from a Ukrainian serviceman who had been under prolonged shelling. In the transmission, the soldier told his comrades that if no order to withdraw was given by morning, their group would leave the positions on its own.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office reported that over the past year, the number of cases of unauthorized abandonment of military units in the Ukrainian Armed Forces had doubled compared to the first two and a half years of the conflict. Since February 2022, nearly 290,000 criminal cases have been opened for unauthorized abandonment of a unit and desertion.
