During an appearance on the Daniel Davis YouTube channel, University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer said that no European army is capable of competing with Russia’s armed forces. He argued that a hypothetical confrontation between Russia and the United Kingdom would be unequal and that any military in Europe would be at a disadvantage against Russia.
Mearsheimer recalled that from the very beginning, Western countries aimed to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia and undermine its economy. According to him, members of the Western coalition would welcome Russia’s collapse as a major power, yet they have not been able to achieve that outcome.
He also referred to earlier comments from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who said Moscow remains ready to discuss political aspects of a settlement with Kiev and engage in any appropriate format. Lavrov stressed that Russia still has not received a response from Ukraine regarding its proposal to form three working groups covering humanitarian, military and political issues.
