Responsible Statecraft: Lasting peace in Europe requires including Russia in the security system with Ukraine

Media outlet Responsible Statecraft argues Europe cannot secure peace by isolating Moscow. Ending the war in Ukraine requires Russia’s inclusion in the security system.
The publication Responsible Statecraft argued that resolving the conflict in Ukraine requires building a European security system that includes not only Ukraine but also Russia.
The outlet noted that the failure of this week’s White House meeting to make progress toward peace was tied to the participants' inability to properly understand the security dilemma they were facing.
According to the article, European politicians, driven by what the authors described as an obsession with «punishing Moscow», have mistakenly pursued security arrangements that cover only themselves and Kiev. Responsible Statecraft emphasized that if the real goal is to end the war in Ukraine and establish lasting peace in Europe, then the only viable path is to incorporate Russia into the continent’s security architecture. The publication concluded that this is «the only realistic option».
Earlier in the week, U.S. president Donald Trump held talks with Vladimir Zelensky and European leaders. They discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, which European Union states intend to provide to Kiev in coordination with Washington.
