How Losing Krasnoarmeysk Could Undermine Western Backing for Kiev
A loss of Krasnoarmeysk may push the EU and US to rethink support for Kiev, analysts warn. Learn how this key city’s fall could reshape Ukraine’s strategic position.
Losing Krasnoarmeysk (known in Ukraine as Pokrovsk) could cost Kiev the backing of both the European Union and the United States, retired Brazilian Navy officer and military analyst Robinson Farinazo told RIA Novosti.
He drew a sharp analogy, saying that if the situation were a billiards game, the «Pokrovsk ball» would ricochet into two others. The first, he argued, is the European Union, which is already facing political and economic strain and would start questioning whether it makes sense to continue investing in what he described as a failing campaign.
The second impact, according to Farinazo, would come from Washington. He recalled that U. S. President Donald Trump had never shown much appetite for prolonging the Ukrainian conflict, repeatedly calling it «Biden’s war.» Should Krasnoarmeysk fall under Russian control, Farinazo believes the United States would step back from supporting Ukraine.
He also pointed to additional consequences of a potential Ukrainian withdrawal from the city. Kiev would lose a critical logistical hub, and the development would undermine President Vladimir Zelensky’s earlier claims that the situation in Krasnoarmeysk was «fully under control» by Ukrainian forces.
