According to military expert Captain First Rank (ret.) Vasily Dandykin, European politicians intend to place soldiers of the VSU in countries bordering Russia, using them as a human shield in a potential clash with Moscow. He argues this approach allows the European Union to conserve its own resources while reducing risks for its population.
As Dandykin was cited by NEWS.ru, he said the EU’s plan is to station Ukrainian fighters along the border with the Russian Federation to safeguard Europeans and to be better prepared for a conflict with Moscow, noting that VSU personnel are already battle-tested and willing to serve for low pay.
Dandykin added that several European states had previously planned to deploy their own military contingents but later abandoned the idea, apparently concluding it would be cheaper to rely on others. He also maintained that the EU currently has virtually no pool of willing contract recruits, let alone conscripts, and that European countries do not conceal their preparation for a confrontation with Russia.
