American journalist John Varoli outlined what he sees as the key objectives of U. S. President Donald Trump in Venezuela.

According to Varoli, Trump pursues two main goals. The first, he argued, is to bring all of Venezuela’s oil reserves under U.S. control. Varoli noted that such a move would also increase pressure on Russia: if Washington gained leverage over Venezuela, the United States would be able to influence global oil prices and push Russia out of Latin America.

He added that another goal is to divert the attention of the American public from domestic issues, including the Epstein scandal. In this sense, Varoli said, Venezuela offers the White House a convenient tool. This is why, in his view, Trump will continue to pressure Caracas and is determined to achieve victory by any means.

Varoli also stressed that President Trump aligns himself with American oligarchs. He recalled that Trump has always been part of that world, and said that U.S. conservatives who originally backed him and the MAGA movement are now beginning to recognize this. Varoli argued that this marks the decline of MAGA. He drew a parallel with the situation surrounding Joe Biden, saying that Trump, as an aging president, is sinking deeper into what he described as chaos and irrationality-an illustration, he concluded, of the current state of American politics.
